Overarching Seaxe Rules
1. Except where otherwise agreed, the starting time for an evening match shall be 6pm and for a weekend game shall be no later than 10am. Provided both sides agree before play commences, a match of fewer than 20 overs per side, but always in multiples of five, may be played. Any team not ready to play 15 minutes after the appointed start time shall forfeit their right to toss. If the match starts at 18 30 or later it should be reduced to 15 overs per side.
2. A minimum of 7 players should be fielded by a side for the match to constitute a league game (at any age group), otherwise the team fielding fewer than 7 players shall be deemed to have conceded the match which may instead be played as a friendly.
3. All U13 and U15 matches will be 11 players a side unless one team contacts the other no later than 5 days before the game to request a reduction to 9 players a side (or such other number as the teams agree).
4. The assumption is that U11 matches shall be 10 a side, The specific rules for U11 matches govern how to deal with situations where odd numbered sides are fielded.
5. All league matches MUST be completed on the dates specified on the MCA Play-Cricket website.
6. Each team shall provide an umpire and a scorer, who shall not be the same person.
7. Umpires will discuss and agree a fair and proper interpretation of Rule 7 within the specific U13 and U15 rules (relating to withdrawal of bowlers for excess height-related no balls).
8. Reporting results: Results of all League matches must be reported by uploading to MCA Play-cricket. If the home team has not uploaded the result within 5 days after the match, the away ream may so upload it.
9. Points awarded: Played and won – 10; Played and lost – 2; Won by concession – 10; Lost by concession – 0; Tied – 5; Abandoned – 4.
U11 Seaxe Rules
The current Laws of Cricket shall apply except:
1. The pitch: 18 yards long. The ball: Readers Supaball (junior)
2. To allow innings to be of 20 overs – unless otherwise agreed prior to the start of a match.
3. Each team starts with a score of 200 runs.
4. The batting team shall be divided into pairs. Each pair shall bat for a number of overs equal to the overall number of overs in an innings divided by the number of pairs – so, where an innings comprises 20 overs and 5 pairs bat, each pair bats for 4 overs.
5. If a team has an odd number of players, unless otherwise agreed before the game, the number of pairs to bat shall be calculated as if the team has one extra player (so, for example, if the team comprises 9 players, pairs will bat for 4 overs each). In those circumstances other batters will join the additional (say,9th) player to make a pair but at no time will any batter be at the crease for more than 1 over more than any other batter. Teams will agree the additional batters on the understanding that these should not constitute the strongest batters in the side in question.
6. Batters shall have unlimited ‘lives’ but each ‘life’ shall result in 5 runs being deducted from the total. No batter who is out shall face the next ball. Batters shall change ends at the fall of each wicket except if a wicket falls from the last ball of an over.
7. No bowler may bowl more than one fifth of the overs of a bowling side. At least 6 players must bowl in an innings and no combination of 5 bowlers may bowl more than 18 overs (or such number as is 2 fewer than the total number of overs if the innings is for less than 20 overs) in aggregate.
8. Wides and No Balls shall count as 2 runs plus any runs scored with no extra ball added to the over, except that in the final over of an innings an extra ball will be bowled for each Wide or No Ball bowled in that over.
9. No fielder, except the wicket keeper, shall be allowed to field nearer than 11 yards measured from the middle stump of the striker’s wicket, except behind the wicket on the off side.
THE RESULT
The team scoring most runs after deductions for wickets lost shall be the winner.

Batters retired under this rule may return to the crease but only when the innings would end if not for such return to the crease.
